About Us

Hi, I’m Rebecca, I own and manage Goose.  I live in Edinburgh with my partner and daughter, whose nickname inspired our shop name.

My first job was at WH Smith at 15 which itself was preceded by a long-time love of shops and shopping.  Despite a detour into a career in theatre, the retail bug never really went away and after years as a studio & freelance florist, I finally made the leap in the Spring of 2026 and Goose was born. We’re starting to make the shop look lovely and will be opening soon.

Our main purpose is to provide beautiful flowers to our local community; for all your high days and holidays, big events and little treats - we’ll have you covered.

That said, I am equally excited by all the non-flowery things we’ll be offering - the plants, the pots, the gifts. Choosing items to stock in the hope you’ll love them as much as I do is a real joy and privilege. I’m delighted to be part of Morningside’s thriving independent shopping scene.

Why buy local flowers?

Most of the flowers available to buy in shops in the UK are not grown here; the majority of floristry businesses rely on flowers which are imported, usually via the Netherlands, from all over the world.

The global flower trade undoubtedly offers convenience and consistency, but with it come some serious environmental considerations; the carbon footprint that comes from transporting vast quantities of flowers around the world, the intensive use of pesticides and the conditions documented on some farms for the (largely female) workforce - to name just a few.

If you’re interested in learning more, there are several business/resources that much better detail the realities of the commercial floriculture industry than I am able to; a great place to start is the sustainable floristry network.

The biggest advantage that comes with choosing to stock British Flowers as a high street florist is undoubtedly also the biggest hurdle - their genuine seasonality.  The majority of retail floristry is sustained by being able to reliably source many of the same types of flowers throughout the year.

The reality is that between November -  March, British flowers are very limited, and retail florists like ours need to be able to offer year-round bouquets in order to keep their businesses going. In this ‘off-season’, we are committed to sourcing our imports conscientiously, whilst always looking to use as much locally-grown product as possible. This is a new endeavour for us and we expect imperfection - but we’ll always be honest with you about where your flowers have come from.
